Castles of Sumava
Kasperk - Gothic castle founded in 1356 by Charles IV. to protect the gold mines in the region. Very visible dominant of two towers overlooking very wide area of Sumava also offers a magnificent view from its top. (you may also find more information on the official website.
Velhartice - Gothic castle founded between 1290 and 1310 on the way from Klatovy to Susice as a residence of nobles from Velhartice. Very famous for a world unique stone bridge which is connecting the palace and tower.
Svihov - A very famous water castle was founded in 14th century on the main road from Plzen to Klatovy. Even if protected by water from all the sites the Hussites managed to defeat it.
Rabi - Probably the largest ruin of castle in the Czech Republic which was founded in 13th century. The most important historical name connected with this location is Jan Zizka who lost his second eye when beleaguering this strongly fortified castle during Hussites wars in 15th century.
Museum of Sumava
Located in Susice, Kasperske Hory and Zelezna Ruda offer the information about lives of previous generation. There is very detailed exhibition of matches industry in Susice and during the Christmas time you may also visit the largest mechanical Christmas crib in the Czech Republic.
